Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Wednesday alleged that the embattled Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has commenced the bribing of members with $25,000 each to obtain their vote of confidence signature and stave his removal from office.
Jibrin made the allegation via his Twitter handle.
He said the register for the signature has been opened at Dogara’s Guest House located at Wilberforce Juta Crescent in Asokoro, Abuja.
Jibrin, who debunked the involvement of external forces in the ongoing matter in the House, disclosed that the distribution of the $25,000 bribery money was coordinated by Hon. Zakari Mohammed, Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Hon CID Maduabum.
Jibrin, on his Twitter handle, said: “Fellow Nigerians, in a desperate attempt, corrupt Speaker Dogara and the 3 others have opened a register for a vote of confidence signature.
“The register is opened at his Asokoro guest house located at Wilbeford Juta crescent. Hon members are giving (sic) $25,000 to sign.
“This disgraceful act is coordinated by Hon Zakari Mohammed, Hon Jagaba Adams Jagaba and DCOS to Mr Speaker Hon CID Maduabum.
“Investigation by anti graft agencies is already on & I pledge to support the investigation and prosecution of these corrupt public officers.
“I am also obliged to respond to some allegations that I am sponsored by some external forces to destabilize the House of Representatives.
“The worthless and laughable allegation is orchestrated by Speaker Dogara and his gang of thieves to discredit my unstoppable mission.
“No external forces in this matter, if there are any, they deserve commendation for sponsoring a struggle to wipe out corruption in the House In any case, are the external forces responsible for the massive theft and abuse of office by Speaker Dogara and the 12 other members?
“He will soon resort to religious blackmail forgetting I was the one, muslim from northwest that spearhead & mobilize resources for his election.
“I had a very good meeting with my party APC yesterday. I thank the party for their objectivity & I will continue to cooperate with the party.
“But I stand by my allegations against Speaker Dogara and his corrupt gang of 12. We shall continue this struggle. There is no going back.”
However, in a swift reaction to the allegation, one of the lawmakers accused of distributing the money, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, in a tweet quickly debunked the allegation.
He tweeted: “My attention has been drawn to yet another tweet by the former chairman appropriation committee, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin saying that I and others were distributing $25,000 to each member of the House, to generate signatures for speaker Dogara’s vote of confidence, “I want to state that the accusation is not only untrue but it is another tales by moonlight to hoodwink Nigerians to malign my image.
“Fellow countrymen please disregard this cheap blackmail aimed at playing to the gallery, I challenge Mr. Jibrin to name at least 10 members or less who benefitted from the bribe.
“My advice to Mr. Jibrin is that he should stop the mudslinging of my person and concentrate on licking his self-inflicted wounds.”
