The Management of the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa, says efforts are underway to resolve industrial dispute with resident doctors, who are striking over nonpayment of salary arrears.
The Association of Resident Doctors had, on November 15, commenced an indefinite strike to protest non-payment of two months’ salary arrears and 52 per cent shortfall of four months’ salaries.
Inibaraye Ogoro, the Director of Administration in the hospital, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday that the hospital management was discussing with the Federal Government on ways to end the strike.
He said that an end to the strike was necessary to prevent other members of staff from joining in it.
He said that the hospital administration was doing it best to meet the demands of the workers.
NAN reports that the striking workers turned up at work on Tuesday in anticipation of resolution of the industrial dispute.
Some of them told NAN that they reported because they were told that the management was engaging officials from the Ministry of Health in discussions over their demands.
The Head of Clinical Services, Dr Preye Numbere, told NAN that the strike involved only resident doctors, noting that the hospital was still rendering some services.
He said consultants in the hospital were making concerted efforts to fill the gap created by the absence of the resident doctors.
