The outgone Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, has formally handed over to Deputy Comptroller-General John Atte.
However, the handing over was devoid of the media blitz that usually attends such ceremonies.
Dikko handed over to Atte behind closed-doors, Ships and Ports Daily is reporting.
The Online newspaper, which had rightly predicted that Atte sould emerge the CG of the NCS until a substantive head is appointed, said the handover ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Customs Headquarters at Wuse Zone 3, Abuja.
Though the media was invited to the occasion, the usual razzmatazz was absent.
This was because journalists who had convened at the Customs Headquarters before 10am were asked to leave without covering the event.
Sources told Sgips and Ports that at about 12noon, the NCS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adeniyi, informed the invited newsmen to leave.
But soon after this, it was gathered that the Abdullahi simply decided to hand to Atte without media coverage of the event, Ships and Ports reported.
The reason for not allowing newsmen who were invited to cover the event was not clear.
But the Customs Deputy Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Joseph Attah, confirmed to Ships and Ports Daily that Atte had taken over as the Acting CG.
Abdullahi resigned as Customs Comptroller General via a letter dated August 3 to President Muhammadu Buhari in which he notified Buhari of his desire to proceed on voluntary retirement from August 18.
Buhari’s approval of Abdullahi’s request was dated August 14 and personally signed by the President.
He thanked the NCS boss for his services to the county in the last six years.
