The Acting Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Dickson Onuoha, has admonished members of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations to jealously protect and preserve the dignity of their callings.
The Director General made the appeal during the 2016 AGM/Election of the Plateau State chapter of the NIPR.
The event included the election of new executives to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.
Onuoha said the public relations occupies a vital department in every organization, hence urged practitioners to promote developmental issues, especially the Federal Government’s programme on industrialisaton and economic diversification.
He said the Fund will within the limit of available resources continue to strengthen the public affairs unit to carry out its assigned responsibilities in addition to developing internal capacity and sharpen the skills of the public relations officers for improved productivity.
Earlier, the caretaker committee Chairman of the NIPR, Dr. Felix Otuwarikpo of the ITF, commended the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, for mobilizing the chapter with funds and other logistics to carry out their day-to-day running of the affairs of the chapter in the past 90 days.
Meanwhile, Otuwarikpo was elected the Chairman.
He scored 53 votes, while Wika Ngofen of PRTVC emerged vice chairman with 52 votes.
King Richard of Galaxy TV was elected Secretary with a total of 51 votes, while Abdullahi Abdullahi of Unijos emerged Financial Secretary and Richard Jonah was elected the Public Relations Officer.
Other elected officials included Rosemary Ettaba, Auditor; Sunny Dung, Treasurer; Mike Igbang, Assistant Secretary; Wazi Datok, Mohammed Zayyad, John Naandoet and Fwenji Go’ar (the immediate past chairman of the chapter) were elected as ex-officio members.
The occasion was graced by the President-in-Council of the NIPR, Dr. Rotimi Oladele, who was represented by a Council Member, Mallam Haroun Audu.
The event also had in attendance officials of the state government, veterans, heads of security and paramilitary agencies based in Jos, as well as chief executive officers of various media organizations.
There were goodwill messages from the special guests.
