Nigeria’s foremost coalition of young Nigerians promoting good governance, public accountability and citizen engagement, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH NIGERIA, kicked off its RSVP Peace Concerts in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Friday.
The concert was FREE strictly on presentation of a voter’s card.
The event was hosted by TV personality, Denrele, with performances by Reminisce, May D, Sasha and Gaise Baba.
Four students who had participated in an audition process earlier in the day also got the opportunity to share the stage with their favourite artistes.
Enough is Enough Nigeria is a coalition of individuals and youth-led organizations committed to instituting a culture of good governance and public accountability in Nigeria through advocacy, activism and the mobilization of the youth population as responsible citizens.
Given limited resources – financial, human and time – the campaign focuses on Nigerians of voting age, particularly 18 to 35, with access to technology – mobile phones and the internet.
During a courtesy visit to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti State, the spokespersons of the electoral body, Toyin Gbadegesin, said: “This is a laudable, non-partisan initiative to drive registration and encourage young people to participate in the upcoming elections.”
Speaking about the maiden edition of the RSVP Peace Concerts, the Executive Director of Enough is Enough Nigeria, Yemi Adamolekun, said: “We are very excited about the turn-out and the support we received from the Ekiti State Chapter of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties as well as the three major political parties in the state.”
Commenting further on the concert initiative, Adamolekun said: “Music is a powerful tool and we were glad the artistes shared in our message of peace and encouraged their fans to participate in the electoral process.
“The message is deliberately very simple: Register to vote, Select credible candidates, Vote and Protect your vote.”
Members of the audience received generators, television sets and fridges as winnings from raffle tickets and other competitions.
