The Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura-Namoda in Zamfara state have announced the closure of the institution for two weeks following students’ demonstration.
This was contained in a circular signed by Hajiya Hayes Abubakar on behalf of the school registrar and addressed to all the students a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau on Saturday.
The circular reads in part: “Due to the unfortunate incident that happened yesterday, 19/9/2019, and the students demonstration that followed up today, 20/9/2019, the management of the polytechnic has accepted to implement security advice that students should proceed on two weeks break from today, 20/9/2019.
According to the circular, lectures will resume on Monday, October 7, 2019.
The circular further directed the students to leave the school premises by 4.30 pm as anyone caught after that time should have himself or herself to blame.
“Students should note that in the event of any destruction or damage to any property, they will be held responsible as security agencies are around to ensure compliance,” it said.
It also drew the attention of students that were yet to complete their registration for the semester to do so within the two weeks break.
The students were asked to bring letters of undertaking from their parents or guardians promising not to take part in any demonstration in the future.
The circular was copied to security agencies, academic and non-academic directors, Dean of Students Affairs, heads of departments and all recognized unions of the institution.
It was learnt that the students staged the demonstration following an attack on the institution by some hoodlums on Wednesday night.
The attackers were said to have inflicted knife wounds on four students who were currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Kaura-Namoda.
