Nemesis has caught up with a 25-year-old undergraduate of the Delta State University, Abraka.
The suspect, Belynda Chinwe Bosa, a student of Mass Communication, had connived with her lover, George Itietie, an undergraduate of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, to dupe her parents of N10 million.
As Bosa’s parents could not raise the ransom, they reduced it to N5 million.
They eventually agreed for N500,000, which was paid into the account number of one America Sunday Ogagawotu, another of their gang, domiciled in ECO Bank branch in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The suspects lodged each other in a hotel at Oyiobo axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and were from the hotel top transacting the business.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celetina Kalu, who paraded them at the command’s headquarters in Asaba on Monday, said the suspects were using Sunday to establish contact with the girl’s parents who have become hypertensive.
Kalu said: “Investigation into the incident revealed that the suspect (Belynda), on leaving Lagos went to her boyfriend one George Itietie at Port Harcourt where herself, the said George (boyfriend) and America (anchorman) planned to inform her parents that she was kidnapped.”
The plot, according to Kalu, was to extort money from her parents because “America got N100,000 as her own share from the ransom.”
Belynda on the parade ground regretted her involvement, maintaining: “I am sorry for the stress I made my parents to go through.”
Kalu narrated to The Eagle Online how a five-man gang of kidnappers, led by one Ofrukoma Mazek Ogbogbolo, abducted a 90-year-old woman, Agari Yard Hannah, at her residence along Umeh/Patani Road, Umeh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Kalu said: “Upon intelligence report, detectives of Special Anti-kidnapping squad swung into action which led to the rescue of the said victim unhurt, whereas the following suspects were arrested Ofrukoma Mazek Ogbogbolo (the gang leader), Ubiri Konuno (the gang’s driver), OKomufere Ogba, Arukakpo Efe, Simon Odoko, who she said was the victim’s grandchild.”
She said the suspects have since confessed to the crime and they are assisting the police in investigation.
