A student of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Bassey Aniakan,
is now in police custody for allegedly poisoning of a student of the
same institution.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, started convulsing after eating cake
suspected to have been poisoned by Aniakan.
Other students rushed the girl to a nearby hospital where it was
detected she ate poison.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Celestina Kalu,
confirmed the incident at the command’s headquarters in Asaba at the
weekend.
Kalu said policemen attached to the police station in Abraka raced to
the scene and arrested Aniakan.
She said: “The suspect confessed during interrogation that he added
Indian hemp to the ingredients used in baking the said cake.”
The PPRO also said one Tubosun Elegbeleye also reported at the
aforementioned station on the same day that a man robbed him at
gunpoint of his tricycle, with registration number UWN 330 QC.
She added: “Sequel to the report, the DPO led a team of detectives and
arrested one Nduka Enuma ‘m’, 26 years, Ojonomaro Ejeita ‘m’ (23),
Mamuyom Godwin ‘m’ (24), Akpoture Godday ‘m’ (28), Onoriode Obokwo ‘m’
(20) and Mudiaga Obokwo ‘m’ (24).”
Kalu listed the items recovered from the suspects to include the
snatched tricycle, one locally-made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun
and five live cartridges.
