One Ofuoma Onarieta, a 46-year-old vandal, is now cooling off in the cell of the Delta State Police Command.
The suspect was nabbed on Sunday at Arhavwrien community in Otu-Jeremi locality of the state, after bursting a pipeline.
Police at Otu-jeremi Division on a tip-off raced to the scene only to discover that the crude oil pipeline that traversed the community has been vandalised and the product was being refined locally.
An indigene of Oviri Olomu Community (names withheld) informed the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, told The Eagle Online at the command headquarters on Sunday, that the informant led the operatives to the scene.
Kalu said: “Detectives visited the scene and with the assistance of the complainant and some youths from the area before the suspect was arrested.”
While she listed the items recovered from the suspect to include 10 litres of liquid substance suspected to be crude oil and long hose, she narrated how operatives attached to Federal highway Patrol arrested one Cyril Azodo, who was moving in a suspicious manner with a bag.
Kalu said: “When his bag was searched, one international passport bearing Moses Omodiagbe, one Samsung camera, one HP Laptop, one LG plasma television, two car keys and other items were recovered.
“Surprisingly, when call was made to a telephone number found in a bank teller found in the bag, one Moses Omodiagbe picked the call and reported that his house was broken into in Benin, Edo State when he went to the church.”
Kalu added: “The victim has identified the items as his own.”
