Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Delta State Police Command on Monday ruptured the kidnappers’ den in Okuetolor bush along Warri/Sapele Road in Delta State.
Three of the gang members were unlucky as they were caught red handed.
Those caught were Morrison Imogure, Rukevwe Solomon and Ubamu Cosman.
They were identified to have earlier kidnapped one Abumere Ebere and Eze Ezebor along Warri/Eku Expressway and kept them in their custody for four days.
The victims, said the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina kalu, at the command headquarters in Asaba on Monday, were held by the criminals for about four days.
According to Kalu, before they were released their families paid an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.
While she said the suspects have since confessed to the crime and led detectives to their hideout at Okuetolor, Kalu listed the items recovered from them to include one cut to size double barrel gun and one single barrel cut to size gun and two live cartridges.
Kalu narrated how detectives saved a woman at gunpoint: “While our men were on patrol along P.T.I road, Effurun, they heard a woman on a moving tricycle shouting that she was being attacked by hoodlums.
“Consequently, the patrol team gave the hoodlums a hot chase. The hoodlums on sighting the patrol team pursuing them by D.S.C round-about Effurun opened fire on the Policemen, and in the ensuing gun battle, one of the hoodlums was gunned down while the other two escaped.”
Kalu said the victim, Vera Sylvanus, who she said sustained injuries, was rescued alive.
She listed the items recovered from them also to include one unregistered TVS tricycle, one fireman generator and one cut to size single barrel gun and one live cartridge.
“Meanwhile, efforts are on to track down the fleeing suspects,” she said.
