The Delta State Government said it had spent about N8 billion on the development of infrastructure in the Delta State University Teaching Hospital from 2010 to date.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Josheph Otumara, said this in Asaba, the state capital, on Friday while presenting the ministry’s Mid-Term Report to the media.
Otumara, however, disclosed that the state government’s expenditure projection for proper development of the tertiary institution, which commenced operation in 2010, was N17.7 billion.
He said that government also spent N4.6 billion on the construction and rehabilitation of 248 primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions projects across the state during the period.
The commissioner added that N5.5 billion was spent on the procurement of equipment in hospitals and health centres.
He said that an additional N3.9 billion was spent on the procurement of drugs, dressings and other pharmaceuticals being managed under the state’s Drug Revolving Fund.
Otumara said that the revenue generated in all the public health institutions in the state during the period was N2.1 billion.
The commissioner said that in order to ensure quality service delivery in the health sector, the ministry recently engaged in monitoring activities in public and private health institutions.
“We have, so far, monitored a total of 129 facilities, and out of the number, 43 were outrightly sealed up as a result of quackery while 36 of them were cautioned,” he added.
