A former Chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Samuel Gégé Jaho (rtd), is dead.
Justice Jaho, who was the pioneer Registrar of the Ughelli Diocèse of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), died at the age of 75 after a brief illness.
Upon his graduation from the University of Lagos in 1972 and subsequent call to the Bar in 1973, Justice Jaho joined the Nigeria Ports Authority and was the Head of the Legal Department in Warri Port between 1975 and 1982.
His kinsmen at Owhrode in Udu Local Government Area of the state in a statement signed by Adams Jaho on Monday said the judge was survived by his wife, Rebecca Kegbru, 16 children, many grandchildren and a great grandson.
According to the statement, late Jaho later transferred his services from the NPA to the Judicial Service Commission in the defunct Bendel State in 1982 as a Chief Magistrate.
He soon became a Chief Registrar of the Delta State Judiciary before his appointment as
a Judge of the Delta State High Court in 1996 and retired meritoriously from the service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 years on June 5, 2004.
He was thereafter appointed by former Governor James Onenefe Ibori as chairman of DSIEC in 2006, where served till the end of his tenure in 2011.
