Delta 2015: Race to succeed Uduaghan hots up

Political pressure groups in Delta State have started shopping for who will succeed the state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in 2015.
The race assumed a new twist on Sunday in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state, as the Delta Progressive Movement went down on its knees begging Chief Godwill Obielum to join the race again.
Obielum joined the race in 2007, but lost to the incumbent, Governor Uduaghan, during the Peoples Democratic Party primary election.
The Abuja might, which he brandished before the primary, was short-lived as former Governor James Ibori’s political acumen outsmarted his own.
He has since reconciled with Ibori’s faction after which he was allegedly compensated with a road contract within the state to off-set his election expenses.
The DPM settled for Obielum, having considered his pedigree, intelligence, charisma and boldness to lead people of the state to the next level of development.
While they pleaded with him to swiftly roll out his blueprint for the development of the state, the group noted that Deltans have long seen the qualities they cannot see in any other aspirant for the governorship position in him.
The resolution was reached at a meeting of the political pressure group in Ogwashi-Uku Town Hall, where those who spoke acknowledged his large-heartedness and his ability as a true democrat.
Hon. Joseph Modeme, who is the coordinator of the DPM in the area, stated that the organization is made up of the progressive-minded individuals who are committed to having a progressive state, asserting: “All members of the DPM are members of the PDP and we are begging Chief Godwill Obielum to come out and contest for the governorship election of our state.
“We are going to set up structures in all the wards and all the communities and villages in the state.
“We want every family to sing one song: Obielum For Governor 2015 and we believe that Chief Obielum will have no option than to contest for the position.
“He is bold, he is intelligent, he is experienced, he is not a tribalist and he will be accepted by every Deltan.
“We know him too well.
“He has a good heart, he loves Delta State and has vision for Delta State, which we want him to actualise by ensuring that he becomes our governor in 2015.”
He said every Deltan should support Chief Obielum for him to emerge as governor in 2015 because he will attract a lot of development and bring his wealth of experience to governance.
Also, Prince Possy Anigala, said: “I see sterling qualities in Chief Godwill Obielum.
“He is a leader who will carry people along and work for the good of Delta State.
“We are happy to be working for him and we pray that he listens to the voice of all Deltans and come out and contest for the governorship election.”
Others who spoke at the occasion included Sylvester Okoni and Patricia Okolugbo.
They said it is the turn of Delta North to produce the next governor of Delta State and urged every Deltan to work for the emergence of Obielum as governor, emphasizing that he is a good administrator who has wealth of experience to ensure that Delta State remains the envy of all Nigerians.
