Delegates on Tuesday kicked against the decision of the leadership of the national conference to gag the media from discharging their duties.
The delegates are currently reviewing the draft rules that will guide proceedings in the next three months that the conference is supposed to last.
In the draft rules, the leadership had made provision for power to withdraw the accreditation of journalists whose reports are considered offensive and unfair.
The controversial Order 9 (7) of the National Procedure Rules reads: “The Conference may grant approval to the representative of any media to attend the sitting of the Conference provided that if the media publishes a report of the proceedings which the Conference considers unfair, offensive and not a true reflection of what transpired, such permission may be revoked.”
Festus Okoye moved the historic motion against the Rule and was unanimously supported by most delegates.
Consequently, Order 9 (7) was deleted from the procedure rules.
