Death of three journalists, sad, shocking – MMPN

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria has described the death of three members of Nigeria Union of Journalists in an auto crash on Friday as sad and shocking.
In a condolence message issued by the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Saturday, the MMPN said it was painful to have lost such dedicated colleagues in a callous way.
Messrs Olatunde Ojenike, Chairman of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria chapter of the NUJ in Ibadan, Oyo State; Adolphous Okonkwo, National Financial Secretary; and Kafayat Odunsi of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA 7), both from Lagos NUJ, died in an auto accident on the Ilesa-Ife Road.
The officials along with others, including the Chairmen of NUJ Oyo and Lagos councils, Gbenga Opadokun and Deji Elumoye respectively, and Fatimah Abdulkareem, National Treasurer, were among those who sustained injuries.
They were all coming from a meeting of the federated chapels with the national leadership of the union in Abuja
Balogun, in the statement, called on the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate all the bad federal roads, which had resulted to the deaths of many promising Nigerians.
The statement said: “This is really sad and shocking.
“The high rate of road accidents on Nigerian roads is alarming and calls for prompt action from the government to stop all these avoidable deaths.”
While praying for the repose of the souls of the dead journalists, MMPN prayed for the quick recovery of the injured journalists.
The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria also commiserated with the national leadership of the NUJ, the Lagos and Oyo State councils as well as the families of the dead journalists for Allah to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
