The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the Federal Government was not disobeying any court order on the bail granted to a former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.
Dasuki is standing trial in three different courts over fraudulent conversion of money among many other charges.
One of them is the $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms for the insurgency fight against Boko Haram.
The other includes another N13 billion.
Dasuki has been granted bail by three courts but is still in custody.
Mohammed, during a meeting with publishers of online newspapers in Lagos on Friday, said Dasuki was still being held because there were fresh charges against him.
He said: “New charges determine new detention.
“Government is free to bring fresh charges when they arise.”
Mohammed, while addressing those who have been championing the cause of Dasuki based on the premise of human rights, said: “Their (those alleged to have stolen money) own rights not more than those of 170 million Nigerians.
“My right as a Nigerian has been violated by those people.
“And one of the challenges we have as Nigerians is that we want to eat omelette without breaking eggs.
“That is not possible.
“When talking about human rights, balance it with the rights of the victims.
“So, if you are granted bail and new charges are brought, we have not disobeyed any court order.”
Speaking on the 2016 Budget, Mohammed said it is the boldest move by any government so far in Nigerian to move people out of poverty.
He said beyond the N5,000 proposed to be given to some categories of poor Nigerians, no fewer than 500,000 people will be trained and sent back to school.
On the N5,000 for poor Nigerians, he said the Federal Government will partner with the World Band and Department of International Development.
Speaking on the missing Chibok girls, Mohammed said the Federal Government will leave no stone unturned in the search for them.
