Dasaolu hits new record in Glasgow

James Dasaolu opened his season with a 6.50 over 60 metres at the Glasgow International Match.
The time is the fastest in the world this year, and with Dasaolu running 6.60 in last years’ first event, the Loughborough-based athlete can be happy with his days’ work.
“I don’t think I nailed it there,” said Dasaolu, whose PB is 6.48. “But it just shows that the consistent improvements I’m making in training is showing in competition. I opened up with 6.60 last year. I opened up with 6.50 today. Hopefully I’ll get a personal best.”
“I didn’t think I got the first five metres right. I am trying some new adjustments coming out of the blocks and I know there’s plenty of room for improvement.
“Training has been going well and it was a chance to see where I am. I tend to use the indoor season to practice aspects of my race and so to run 6.50 in my first outing is great.
“I have been looking forward to this season and I am delighted to get it underway.”
Dasaolu is the second fastest Great Britain sprinter of all-time, running 9.91 in the British trials in 2013.
He started his athletics career in 2006 with Croydon Harriers, training in South London. He trains at Loughborough University under the guidance of his coach Steve Fudge.
He competed at London 2012 and won a silver medal at the 2013 European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg.
Dasaolu also competed in the World Championship Final in Moscow in the same year.
