Danny Jordaan, the chairman of the then 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee, has been elected President of the South African Football Association.
Jordaan was elected on Saturday at SAFA’s Elective Congress at the Helderfontein Estate in Midrand, Johannesburg.
Jordaan steered a successful 2010 World Cup finals, hosted by South Africa, and it was the first global football showpiece ever hosted on the African continent.
He defeated Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko by 162 to 88 votes to replace outgoing SAFA President, Kirsten Nematandani.
Nematandani could not re-contest because he did not receive any nominations from the 52 SAFA regional associations.
Jordaan told newsmen shortly after being elected that re-building South African soccer from the grassroots and restoring the federation’s image would be his priority.
