The First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, has sent her best wishes to the Golden Eaglets at the 2013 UAE FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
The message of solidarity was delivered to the team’s officials at their Dinat Resort Hotel on Friday evening ahead of their opening game against defending champions, Mexico, on Saturday.
The message was delivered by Ibrahim Auwalu, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the UAE, who visited the team alongside some members of his family.
“I’m delighted to be here on behalf of Her Excellency to ascertain how well you are coping as well as getting ready for your first game against Mexico on Saturday,” Auwalu said.
He added: “In fact, the First Lay said I should inform you that she is expecting you, her children, to go all out and do the country proud.
“I want you to pass on her message to the players because I don’t want to disturb them since they are resting now.”
Ambassador Auwalu would later inform that the Golden Eaglets’ Number 1 supporter, Senator Liyel Imoke, the Governor of Cross River State, will arrive Dubai in the early hours of Saturday en route to Al Ain to cheers the Golden Eaglets to victory against Mexico.
He said: “Again, I want to assure you that Nigerians, including President Goodluck Jonathan, believe in this team and tomorrow (Saturday), Governor Imoke would be here with his entourage to support the team.”
The Golden Eaglets’ Team Administrator, Tayo Egbaiyelo, seized the opportunity to thank the amiable Ambassador for finding time out of his busy schedule to visit the team as well as his assistance since the team’s arrival about three weeks ago in the Gulf Emirates.
