Cultists clash in Lagos, four injured

Shomolu/Bariga area of Lagos State on Wednesday experienced long hours of fracas by suspected cultists.
Residents and passers-by were caught in the clash at Popoola, Oreofero Adifase, Osho and Fadipe Streets as the cultists engaged one another shooting and wielding of cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
The residents identified the Eiye and Aiye cults as the groups engaged in the supremacy battle.
The residents added that rampaging youths also destroyed vehicles and other property in the area.
A source, who requested anonymity, said: “Last month, a councillor with the Somolu Local Government Area, one Hon. Tunde, organised a street football match.
“The boys from Bariga, who are mostly Aiye Cult boys, who came for the match at Odunlami Street, were attacked by the Eiye boys in Somolu.
“One Tijanni was axed all over his body.
“The next day, the Aiye cult caught up with one Hammed and retaliated.
“Three days later, a boy named Elede was critically wounded by the Eiye boys at Rufai Street.
“These boys are lying critically ill at the hospital.
“The attack and counter attack snowballed into today’s daylight clash.”
A community leader, who simply identified himself as Olamide, said the residents are fed up with the insecurity in the area.
He said “We are appealing to the Divisional Police Officers of the Alade Division and the Pedro Police Station to sanitize the area because we are fed up with the devilish activities of these evil minded boys who go by different names.
“Some of their members have been charged to court for various offences but since they came back, the relative peace we have been enjoying have eluded us.
“The police need to put a final stop to these marauding boys.”
A resident, who requested anonymity, said: “These boys are known as the Eiye/EFCC boys.
“Their junior wing consisting of boys of 10 years to 13 years are called the Feeling Stealing Boys of Shomolu.
“These boys started their attack on perceived enemies since Tuesday.
“They came into the community and started shooting and they damaged vehicles.”
