Everton’s top four hopes took a huge hit after they suffered a shock 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace which leaves them trailing Arsenal by a point.
Jason Puncheon gave Palace the lead after 23 minutes, finding the far corner with a low shot after he was teed up by Marouane Chamakh.
The visitors then doubled their lead with Scott Dann placing a free header from seven yards out past Tim Howard.
Substitute Steven Naismith pulled one back for Everton just past the hour, poking in from three yards out after Leighton Baines had headed Kevin Mirallas’ cross back to him.
However Palace restored their two-goal lead on 73 minutes with Puncheon teeing up Cameron Jerome, who set himself before firing the ball into the bottom corner.
Mirallas ensured a tense finish with four minutes to go, clipping the ball past Julian Speroni after Ross Barkley’s cross deflected off Joel Ward into his path, but they could not find an equaliser.
