The Ebonyi State Government is contemplating giving a seven-day “window” for bereaved people to bury their loved ones, having earlier placed an outright suspension on burials due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Uchenna Orji, dropped the hint in a statement in Abakaliki on Monday.
Orji said the decision was reached after consultations with stakeholders and leaders of the state.
According to him, such burials will be graced by not more than 20 members of the immediate family of the deceased.
He said: “Ceremonies for such burials can however be held immediately after the COVID-19 scourge or at other time thereafter as they may desire.
“Ebonyi government will take a decision on the issue on Wednesday and will notify the public accordingly.”
Orji urged individuals who want to participate in such an arrangement to notify his office or send the notification to the e-mail address: ebonyiinformation@gmail.com.
The commissioner added that the state government would, however, send people to monitor such burials to ensure compliance with COVID-19 precautions.
