An Imo State High Court sitting in Owerri, the state capital, has stopped the swearing-in of the newly-appointed Deputy Governor of the state, Callistus Ekenze.
The ceremony was supposed to be underway at the Government House when the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Militus Nlemadium, announced that it could not continue again as a result of the court ruling.
Ekenze, who was appointed to replace sacked Eze Madumere, was already in the hall for the ceremony with his family and Governor Rochas Okorocha, among other dignitaries for the swearing-in.
Nlemadium said there was a court order stopping the Chief Judge from swearing-in the deputy governor-designate.
He said the guests should not to despair, assuring them that the government had filed all legal process to set aside the court order.
He expressed optimism that the order would be vacated on Tuesday and that the deputy governor would be sworn in same day (today).
