An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 45-year-old trader, Abu Salako, be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 14-year-old girl.
The police charged Abu, who lives in Olusanya Street, Agege, a Lagos suburb, with alleged defilement.
Chief Magistrate A. O. Olayinka, who did not take the plea of Abu, ordered the prosecution to send the case file to the Lagos State Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Olayinka adjourned the case until November 17 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde alleged the defendant defiled the victim on September 15 at 1 p.m. at his residence.
He submitted that defendant allegedly lured the girl into his shop and defiled her.
Ayorinde said that the father of the victim reported the case to the police.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The section attracts life imprisonment for any convicted offender.
