An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered remand of a 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Tunde Adeniyi, who allegedly stole church musical instruments worth one million naira.
The Chief Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that the defendant should be kept at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.
Adeniyi had pleaded not guilty to two counts of stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Taiwo Adegoke, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 16, at 2:00a.m. at the Christ Altar of Mercy Evangelical Ministry, opposite Ebunoluwa International School, Ofatedo, Osogbo.
Adegoke said the defendant conspired with others at large to break into the church premises, carting away two Slave Mixers, one mixer engine and a keyboard.
He said that the stolen property worth one million naira and that the alleged offences contravened Sections 416 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Defence counsel, Kazeem Adepoju, had prayed the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms but the chief magistrate overruled him.
The court adjourned the case until January 8, 2021, for substantive hearing.
