An Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja has ordered an okada rider, Yahaya Inuwa, who pleaded guilty to stealing a Bajaj Motorcycle worth N180,000 to be remanded, pending sentencing.
The Nigeria Police charged the 23-year-old suspect, who lives behind Karu Market, Abuja, with theft on Thursday.
The Judge, Malam Hassan Mohammed, adjourned the case until October 10, 2022 for sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the defendant on September 16, 2022 stole a motorcycle worth N180,000 belonging to his fellow rider.
Adeyanju said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation to defend the allegations against him.
The prosecutor said the matter was reported at the Karu Police Station by Malam Bello Ahmed of same address.
Adeyanju said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
