An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 37-year-old man, Akeem Olayiwola, in the correctional centre, Ado-Ekiti, over alleged attempted murder.
The prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant, whose address was not provided, committed the offence on November 25 at Ilawe-Ekiti.
Akinwale said that the defendant attempted to murder one Olu Oko, 50.
He said that the defendant, a hunter, went to farm and pulled his gun, thinking he had shot an animal, not knowing that it was a human being.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor, therefore, urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecutiond.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the plea of the defendant was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Adefumike Anoma, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice by the DPP’s office.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case till January 21, for mention.
