A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of a 20-year-old farmer, Abdulkarim Audu, in police custody for allegedly stealing bathroom appliances valued N500,000.
The police charged Audu, a resident of Iddo Sarki village, FCT, with two counts of house breaking and theft.
The Chief Magistrate, Aliyu Shafa, adjourned the case until Jan. 27 for sentencing.
Shafa ordered that the defendant be remanded after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
The defendant had earlier confessed to the court that he sold the items.
The magistrate ordered that proper investigation be carried out and all those who bought the stolen items should be charged to court.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Abdulahi Tanko, had told the court that the complainant, one Nachrist Onyedikachi, reported the matter at Iddo Police Station on January 21.
Tanko said that the defendant went to the complainant’s house and broke his window and stole 11 toilet seats, 10 washing hand basins and some showers all valued N500,000.
He said that during investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and some of the items were recovered from him.
According to him, the offences contravened the provisions of sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code.
