A Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Mararaba in Nasarawa State on Thursday remanded a blind man, Shehu Sarki, 62, of Angwan Makarfe, Aso Pada, Mararaba in Nasarawa State for allegedly jumping bail.
The presiding judge, Albert Maga, gave the order because the accused had on several adjourned dates refused to show up to continue trial in a case against him.
Maga said: “The accused had failed to show up on several adjourned dates to face his trial since January 28.
“He claimed that he was out of town and that he was sick.
“After several adjournments, he had refused to come to court.
“There was no correspondence to tell the court the reason behind his absence for so long.”
Maga therefore directed that Sarki be remanded in Keffi prison till February 17 for ruling on the charge against him.
Sarki is facing a one-count charge of enticing the wife of another blind man, Shuaibu Ibrahim, 52, of same address.
Ibrahim on August 27, 2013 dragged Sarki, the Chairman of Blind Peoples’ Association, Aso Pada, to court for allegedly enticing his wife, Lami, 38.
Ibrahim told the court that the accused had assisted him in getting Lami’s hand in marriage but later enticed and took her away from him.
He said: “Sometime in June, Sarki helped me to get a woman, Lami, whom I later married.
“After our marriage in July, Sarki later enticed my wife and took her away from my house.
“I later discovered that my wife was staying in one of his rooms and he has been sleeping with her.”
The accused denied the allegation.
