A Sharia Court ll sitting at Magajin Gari Kaduna, on Tuesday sentenced 35-year-old landlord, Yusuf Sulaiman, to two months in prison for converting N130,000 belonging to a tenant to his personal use.
The police charged Sulaiman, who resides in Kabala Costain area of Kaduna with breach of trust.
The judge Musa Sa’ad-Goma, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sa’ad-Goma, however gave the convict an option to pay N10,000 fine.
He also ordered the convict to pay N130,000 to the complainant, Aisha Muhammad.
Earlier, the prosecutor Aliyu Sulaiman, told the court that the complainant paid N200,000 out of N450,000 as rent to the defendant with plans to move in on a later date.
He said that the complainant later demanded a refund for her money, but the convict only paid N70,000 and refused to pay the balance.
The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 312 of the penal code.
