The Federal High Court Abuja on Monday fixed July 15 for hearing of a motion filed by former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, asking for the release of his International Passport to enable him travel for medical check-up.
Sylva had, through his counsel, Israel Olorundare (SAN), filed the motion, urging the court to release his documents to enable him travel abroad on health grounds before the end of July.
However, Peter Aneto, the EFCC counsel, told the court that the accused counsel served him with the motion on June 25.
He prayed for a short adjournment to enable him file his reply.
Meanwhile, Justice Adamu Bello held that the motion had yet to be received officially by the court.
“In the circumstance, the matter is adjourned to July 15 for hearing of the motion,” Bello said.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on June 5, 2012 arraigned Sylva for alleged misappropriation of N6.46 billion state funds.
The anti-graft agency had in a suit number HC/ABJ/CR/23/2012 claimed that Sylva and others, now at large, committed the offences between October 2009 and February 2010.
The anti-graft agency said the offences contravened the provisions of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2004.
The ex-governor denied knowledge of the alleged fraud and pleaded not guilty.
