Members of the Lagos state House of Assembly were shocked and could not believe their eyes on Tuesday when the Chairman of Kt Area , Afolabi Sofola, walked them out of his office at the council premises.
The lawmakers, who are members of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs, had, as part of their oversight functions on local councils, visited the LGA, but were shocked by the attitude of the chairman who accused them of coming late.
The committee had earlier written officially to intimate the chairman and his officials of the visit, like it did with all the 57 councils in the state, stating date and time of the visit to assess facilities in the councils and asses projects either executed or undergoing execution.
The lawmakers, who were led by the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Moshood Oshun, had earlier visited Somolu Local Council Development Area where they spent time trying to ensure that everything was in order.
The committee members however got to Kosofe LGA at 2pm against the 12noon they had given.
But immediately they were ushered into the office of the chairman, he raised an objection, saying he was no longer expecting them since the time they gave him had lapsed.
When the lawmakers asked him if he was not prepared to receive the committee, he spread out his arms and said: “Yes, but for 12noon.”
And with his response, the lawmakers walked out of his office.
Though the lawmakers felt hurt and angry at the attitude of the chairman, it is not yet clear what sanction they would mete out to Sofola.
It was learnt that he had been trying to reach the members to apologise for the embarrassment he caused them.
But Oshun has declared that the chairman would certainly hear from the House as the matter has already been reported to the Speaker, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji.
