The police on Monday said it has arrested one of the bandits that kidnapped an expatriate and killed a police corporal.
The corporal, Apogu Dzakwa, with F/NO 381387, was shot dead on May 18, 2015 around 11:30am, along Ayere/Ajowa Road in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who disclosed this, said the deceased Corporal was on escort duties of one expatriate, Engineer Karunadasa Dorawaka of Boroni Prono Construction Company Limited.
According to Ojukwu, the expatriate was equally kidnapped by bandits.
Ojukwu explained that on June 13, 2015, around 2am, operatives of the Special Squad, acting on a tip-off, arrested one Isa Sunday Omouya, aka Cat or Sunday Moscow, aged 36, of Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He added: “A search of Omouya’s premises and surrounding environment led to the recovery of one AK47 rifle with 13 rounds of live ammunition, one single barrel gun with two rounds of live cartridges and three ATM Cards of different banks.”
Ojukwu said further investigation revealed that the recovered AK47 with No BA 360834 was snatched from Dzakwa, who was shot dead.
“The suspect has admitted the crime and named his criminal gang, including Salami Abdulazeez, aka Target,” stated Ojukwu.
“He has equally admitted to several other armed robberies and kidnapping escapades along Okene-Lokoja Highway and Kabba Road.
Part of the ransom he received has also been traced to the wife’s account in one of the banks.
The suspect further revealed that their sources of arms and ammunition is traceable to Idris Ozi Shaibu and Eneji Obeito, aka Different.
They are all of Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
