The Czech Republic on Friday said it would ban entry to the country of all foreign nationals and ban its own citizens from travelling abroad to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus, Prime Minister Andrej Babis said.
Babis said the restrictions would take effect from Monday.
Special regulations and exemptions will apply to commuters who live or work 50 kilometres from the border with Germany and Austria, truck drivers and diplomats.
Foreigners with a permanent place of residence in the Czech Republic will still be able to enter the country, but will not be able to leave until further notice.
According to the prime minister, people returning from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and 12 other risk areas must immediately go into isolation for at least 14 days.
