A 28-year-old cook, Glory Ebube, on Monday appeared before a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of N208,000 and an Airtel internet modem valued at N17,000
Ebube, of Number 20, Huambo Crescent, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja, is facing two counts of joint act and theft.
She however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 7.
Ejike said the complainant, Leman Ekpe, of Plot 2, Dunukofia Street, Garki, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse Zone 3 Divisional Police Station.
He said that the defendant with her friend now at large, boarded a taxi driven by Ekpe from Wuse Zone 7 to Garki on the same date.
The prosecutor said during the trip, the defendant stole the complainant’s Airtel internet modem valued at N17,000 and N208,000 cash.
Ejike said during police investigation, the internet modem was recovered from the defendant.
The offences, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Abdulmajid Oniyangi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must be a civil servant on grade level 09 and above.
He adjourned the case until February 4, 2021 for hearing.
