Charles Nwaorgu, the Rivers State Agriculture Commissioner, on Wednesday decried the level of infrastructure decay at the state-owned Delta Rubber Company in Okomoko in Etche Council area.
Nwaorgu told newsmen shortly after an inspection tour of the company that the Nyesom Wike-led government would take steps to resuscitate the company.
He said it was worrisome that such a company with revenue-yielding prospect had been left in a state of coma for several years.
He said: “Government will soon commence the revitalisation of the company at least within the resources available to it; this company cannot be abandoned.
“The Wike-led government is interested in resuscitating and enlivening revenue-generating outfits in the state, this is part of the promise it made.’’
Nwaorgu said that part of the reasons the government was considering revitalising the rubber company was its prospect to provide employment for youths.
The commissioner gave all illegal occupants of the c premises of the company 21 days to vacate or face ejection.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Delta Rubber Company, which occupies about 6,770 hectares of land, had been abandoned for almost 10 years.
