A 23-year-old man, Bethel Raewodo, was on Tuesday arraigned on a charge of stealing two cell phones valued at N15,000 and N3,000 cash, all amounting to N18,000.
The accused cleaner of Modupe Street in Ikeja, Lagos State, appeared before Magistrate L. Y. Balogun of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rachel Williams, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 3 at the Oba Akran Street, Ikeja branch of First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
Williams said the accused, a cleaner with the bank’s branch, stole two cell phones belonging to some members of staff of the bank, valued at N15,000 and N3,000 cash.
He said: “When the branch manager of the bank discovered that two cell phones and some amount of money were missing, he played back the CCTV camera installed within the bank.
“There, he saw when the accused was stealing those items.”
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Balogun admitted the accused to a bail of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case to June 23 for mention.
