The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has impounded 600 gallons of petroleum products from some suspected vandals’ hideout in Lagos State.
The petroleum products, which were concealed in black 25 litres jerry cans, were lifted from the hideout in Festac Area of Lagos on Monday by men of the NSCDC attached to Lagos State Command of the corp.
While addressing newsmen in Lagos, the state Commandant of the corps, Obafaiye Shem, said the operation, which took them sleepless nights, was carried out following a tip-off received from some members of the public who had suspected the operation of the vandals.
Shem said although the vandals in the Festac water ways area feel they are unstoppable, the NSCDC would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that they were finally apprehended and brought to face the justice.
His words: “This is the third time we are bursting the water ways of Festac area.
“We stormed the creek in the wee of the night.
“Immediately they sighted us coming, they engaged us in gun battle.
“But we were able to overpower them, while they fled and left their products behind.”
The commandant advised the vandals to relocate from Lagos or quit their illegal deal, as the state will no longer be conducive for them to operate again.
He said his men were also combat ready to flush the vandals out of Lagos State.
He also called on residents of Lagos State, especially those who lives near the creeks, to report any suspicious movement of strange people to security agencies.
The impounded product would be handed over to the Nigerian National petroleum Corporation.
