Liverpool’s hopes of signing Nigerian star Samuel Chukwueze have been boosted as the 19-year-old opened up about his ambition of playing in the Premier League.
The Villarreal youngster has bagged eight goals and three assists in all competitions for the La Liga side, and the report adds that Manchester City are also interested in Chukwueze.
The Nigerian wizkid said: “Playing in England is still an ambition for me.
“I need to keep on working hard and to keep improving. I really want to play in England.”
Chukwueze also spoke about his failed move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The winger claimed that the deal was close to completion but the two sides could not finalise on the financials.
He said: “It was very close for me to sign for Arsenal, almost had the contract in my hands.
“Unfortunately, it did not work out fine with my academy due to the side of agreement and payment.
“They did not agree with the terms of the contract.”
The Daily Mail added that the Nigerian has a release clause of £54 million, but Villarreal could accept a lower fee with add-ons.
There is a lot of interest in the attacker, who is called Samu, with the report claiming that Leicester City, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal were linked earlier in the season.
The attacker has been compared to Arjen Robben as he likes to cut in from the right and shoot with his left foot, according to the report.
Liverpool have a fantastic attack but we could do with additional firepower and cover for our wide players.
