High-flying Golden Eaglets continued their impressive display as they proved superior to the South American giants, Brazil, beating them 3-0 to qualify for the semi final at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
Brazil, who made four changes to their starting lineup against New Zealand, started the brighter of the two teams, but they failed to put away the several chances they created as goalkeeper Udoh made some brilliants saves, before Victor Osimhen opened scoring for Nigeria after 29 minutes for his eighth goal of the tournament.
Kingsley Michael doubled the lead for the four-time World Champions in the 30th minute off a delivery by Osimhen, before Udochukwu Anumudu made it 3-0 in the 34th minute.
With Sunday’s victory, Nigeria has avenged the Flying Eagles 4-0 loss to Brazil at Chile ’87 World Championship and the 3-4 defeat in Lagos by the Femi Opabunmi-led Golden Eaglets.
The Brazilians suffered a second loss in a space of three weeks after losing 2-1 to Nigeria in an invitational tournament in Suwon, South Korea.
Nigeria now awaits the winners of the quarterfinal between Mexico and Ecuador slated for Monday to determine the semi final ticket.
