Prince Chibudom Nwuche, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, on Sunday called on the Federal Government to address the issues of ethnic agitations in the country.
Nwuche told the News Agency of Nigeria in Edeoha, Ahoada-East Local Government Area of Rivers that he was in support of dialogue in order to achieve lasting peace.
He pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the problems resulting to youths’ agitations and address their concerns.
He said: “The concerns are not just being made-up; they talked about the structure that needs to be addressed because it is not bringing out the best in Nigerians.
“Nigeria is a country that is nearly 60 years old, but we are still crawling, so, we need to look at what has caused the problems.”
The former federal lawmaker also urged the Federal Government to handle the Indigenous People of Biafra issue with care.
Nwuche said: “It is important to handle the issue of IPOB with care because it has the potential of destabilising the country.
“I will also like to appeal to our youths, Nnamdi Kanu and others, to also sheathe their sword and dialogue with government.
“And the government should see them as children who have erred and work together with them to achieve peace.”
Nwuche, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress said that Nigeria was a multi-cultural, ethnic and religious society that should be best to govern from a decentralised position.
He added: “I think we should restructure and give more powers to the various states or political zones as the case may be.”
