The referee who was at the centre in the controversial English Premiership League match between Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC, Mark Clattenburg, has been suspended by the English Football Association.
The suspension is coming just as the Scotland Yard launched investigation into the same allegation for which Clattenburg was suspended by the FA: inappropriate language.
He was said to have racially abused Chelsea stars, Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel and Juan Mata.
Chelsea, after losing 2-3 to Man United, lodged a formal complaint against Clattenburg.
Scotland Yard said it has launched an investigation into the alleged racial abuse.
It said it was working with Chelsea “in order to consider any allegation that is made in relation to the reported events.”
Clattenburg has promised to cooperate with investigators.
