Chelsea’s search for a new striker has led them to Nigerian international, Emmanuel Emenike, currently of Turkish side, Fenerbache.
The 27-year-old striker is reportedly looking for a move to the Premier League and with Chelsea having made enquiries for the player last summer, it looks like a match made in heaven.
Emenike has become disillusioned with life in Turkey after falling out with the club’s fans following a derby match in which he was jeered for recent poor form.
The player was subbed at half-time and then left the stadium before disappearing for two days.
The Nigerian is now facing a fine of 50,000 euros.
Reports in the Daily Express suggest that Chelsea are looking to sign the striker at the end of this season, with fans favourite, Didier Drogba, and summer signing, Loic Remy, looking all but certain to leave.
London rivals, Arsenal, as well as Liverpool have both previously been linked with the striker but Chelsea now look favourites to land Emenike at a cost of around £16 million. Coach Jose Mourinho will be hoping Emenike leaves his poor form in Turkey though, with the player scoring just four goals in 27 games in all competitions this season for Fenerbache.
