The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, has hailed the 4-1 victory of the home-based Super Eagles over resilient Cote d’Ivoire in the first leg of the Africa Nations Championship qualifying match played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, on Saturday.
The NSC boss, who was the Special Guest for the match, used the medium to thank and also commend the Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Muktar Lamaran Yero, for showing profound love and interest for the game of football, a reason why he offered to host the match in the first place.
Elegbeleye also showered encomiums on football fans in Kaduna, who supported the Eagles all through the match.
He said such attitude will go a long way in helping the psychology of the national teams whenever they play there.
He said: “I am happy that Kaduna is back to host matches of this magnitude.
“I am using this medium to thank His Excellency Governor of Kaduna for his huge interest in football and for hosting the game, which Nigeria won to put smiles on the faces of football loving Nigerians.
“The fans were wonderful as regards their support for the team throughout the game.
“It was a great match and a good result for the Super Eagles.
“What they need to do now is to go to Cote d’Ivoire for the return leg and defend this result.
“I am confident they can do this and make Nigeria proud.”
