Celtic have been crowned Scottish Premiership champions for 2019-2020 following an SPFL meeting on Monday to determine the outcome of the league season.
Neil Lennon’s side were 13 points clear at the top of the table with eight games remaining when the league was postponed on March 13, prior to the Hoops’ derby visit to Ibrox.
Celtic’s 51st title victory sees the Parkhead side claim their ninth successive league title in a row, matching the feat secured by Jock Stein’s sides between 1965/66 and 1973/74.
The club had already secured the Scottish League Cup after a 1-0 victory at Hampden over Rangers in December, meaning that today’s announcement has handed them the double.
While the Neil Lennon’s side were on course for a quadruple-treble with a Scottish Cup semi-final match against Aberdeen curtailed by coronavirus, the winner of which was then due to face either Hibs or Hearts on May 9 in the showpiece final.
The league title victory also comes on the day the club’s founder, Brother Walfrid, was born back in 1840.
The decision to call time on the 2019-2020 season came amid growing pessimism over the prospect of fixtures being resumed before the 30 June deadline imposed by UEFA.
