The Accident Investigation Bureau has said that the cause of the crash of the June 3, 2012 Lagos-Abuja flight of Dana Air will never be known.
The AIB on Friday said this was due to the loss of the Flight Data Recorder of the crashed plane.
The Bureau said the FDR was lost to the fire that erupted after the aircraft crashed.
The Commissioner of the AIB, Usman Mukhtar, told newsmen on Friday that though the solid component of the FDR was recovered, the digital component could not be retrieved.
Mukhtar said: “It is like cooking an egg.
“The shell is intact but the egg inside is destroyed.”
Mukhtar said efforts to determine the cause of the crash proved futile as the National Transportation Safety Board, an the independent investigative agency responsible for civil transportation accident investigation in the United States of America, where the crashed Dana FDR was taken, could not retrieve anything tangible from the device.
He said it was from only the Cockpit Voice Recorder that any conversation could be retrieved.
Mukhtar, however, said that the engine of the aircraft has been taken to the NTSB in Washington DC, United States of America for further investigation.
