A former US Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Walter Carrington, has expressed shock and sadness over the weekend gruesome killing of the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde, in his home in Benin City.
In a letter to Oshiomhole, which was jointly signed by himself and his wife, Arese, the Carringtons said: “We are greatly saddened and shocked to learn of the assassination of your trusted Private Secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde. Whenever we interacted with him we found him to be most helpful and kind.”
The former US diplomat said by his murder, Oyerinde has been denied the most basic of human rights.
“The most important basic of human rights are those of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Olaitan has been cruelly deprived of all three,” the said, adding: “We send our deepest condolences to you, his grieving family, colleagues and friends.”
