The Independent National Electoral Commission has recorded a setback in one of its polling units in Niger State as about 600 voters are yet to be accredited as at 2:45pm as against the stipulated cut off time of 1pm.
Speaking to journalists, the Presiding Officer, Akoniyion Oluwasegun, said the voters, especially the female, have refused to maintain their queue and it has now become almost impossible for him and his assistant at the Anguwan Pabei polling unit (004) in Gwada to attend to them.
Oluwasegun said: “This is almost 3pm and we have not gone half way for accreditation.
“I need more support.
“Even the police officers are tired.
“We have just 626 registered voters.
“When I am attending to a voter, another one will jump the queue and disrupt us.”
An eligible voter who gave her name as Aisha Iliya said the card reader is so slow and accreditation is suppose to end by 1pm.
Iliya said: “We have been here since 7:30am.
“Where I am standing now is where I have been standing since morning.
“The machine is very slow and some people are impatient.
“So, they try to force their way to the front.
“Some of them rushed home and when they returned, they wanted to force themselves into the queue.”
