A Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja on Wednesday, sentenced a car dealer, Musa Mohammad  to six months imprisonment for cheating a customer of N20 million.

Magistrate Umar Dodo, sentenced Mohammad, who resides in Rigasa New Extension, Kaduna with criminal breach of trust, cheating and misappropriation.

Dodo who sentenced the convict said the six months was for each of the charge, however, to run concurrently and without an option of fine.

He said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in any criminal act.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Bunmi Aimola told the court that the case was reported  to the commissioner of police, FCT Command through a written petition by  the complainant, Sule Alu  of Efab Metropolitan Estate, Karsana, Abuja, on June 3, 2020.

The prosecutor said that the complainant  said that sometimes in March, 2019, he gave the convict  his  BMW S2Di series car worth N20 million in exchange for a Hillux truck.

In addition, the prosecutor said that the complainant also gave the convict the sum of N250,000 to paint the  said car, which he got as a retirement benefit when he retired from the Nigeria Customs Service, as a Deputy Comptroller- General.

She further stated that Mohammad instead of honouring the agreement he had with the complainant, disappeared with the car and the money to an unknown destination until he was arrested by the police.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation it was discovered that the convict sold the car for the sum of N6 million and converted the money to his personal use.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 322,312 and 309 of the  Penal Code Law.
