The Christian Association of Nigeria has said it plans reporting dreaded sect, Boko Haram, at the International Criminal Court.
The President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, made the position of the umbrella organization for Christians in Nigeria known at the opening of the National Executive Council meeting of the association in Awka, Anambra State on Wednesday.
Oritsejafor said the move is in addition to pressure being mounted on the Nigerian Government to classify Boko Haram as a terrorist organization.
He said: “The Federal Government should designate the Boko Haram sect as a foreign terrorist group.
“We will not encourage Christians to carry arms, but we have always called on Christians and the churches to defend and protect themselves.
“The way the sect is succeeding in its attacks, it is obvious that it is not done yet.
“We call on the governors of the 19 Northern states to come together and hold a meeting to know the fate of their people who are being killed in the North.
“Without the measures put in place by the southern governors, there will be reprisal attacks every day.
“So why shouldn’t the Northern governors put in the same measures?”
